<p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline">10 Rules for Writing an Essay in Economics</span></strong></p>
<ol>
<li>Always start with a plan of what you  will include in the essay, which <strong>diagrams</strong> you will draw, what <strong>examples</strong>      you will include and how you will <strong>evaluate</strong>.</li>
<li>Look at the <em>trigger words </em>in the question. What is the question requiring of you?</li>
<li>Look at the mark allocation and ensure the length of your response is in line with      this.</li>
<li><strong>Start</strong> the essay with definitions of the economic  terminology. Never begin or end with a graph!!</li>
<li>When you include a diagram pay special attention to the labels. Quantity of what?   Price  expressed in….?   Demand or Aggregate Demand?</li>
<li>Never  include a diagram unless it is relevant and well explained in detail.      Remember they should be big and clear</li>
<li>Always evaluate.  If it is not clear how, consider the  different stakeholders, long run versus short run and the most salient point in an argument</li>
<li>Stay on the point.  Do not answer the question  you WISH you had been asked.</li>
<li>Always refer to the data set (paper 2) Give real-life examples (paper 1)</li>
<li>Sum up the crux of the argument in your last few sentences.</li>
